Legal Counsel

Basic Qualifications

* Education: LLB or JD or equivalent.

* Qualified to practice in a Commonwealth, U.S. or Asian jurisdiction

* Japanese bar qualification preferred but not required.

* Minimum of five post-qualification years of legal support or similar experience in private practice and/or in-house, with experience in-house with a Japanese company or subsidiary within a global corporate group preferred.

* Strong verbal and written communication skills, including contract drafting and negotiation skills in both Japanese and English. 

* Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

* Experience in technology sector.

Desired Qualifications

* Excellent analytical, negotiation and contract drafting skills in a variety of technology/licensing agreements including software, managed services and multi-tier channel reseller models.

* Strong working knowledge of international commercial contract law, Japanese corporate law, competition law, software licensing, privacy and data protection and intellectual property rights.

* Astute commercial awareness, robust time and project management skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

* Solid experience in the telecommunications, Internet or IT field, ideally with a mix of law firm training and/or substantial in-house experience.

* Experience handling labor and employment matters in Japan, a plus.

* Solid experience providing legal support to Sales personnel.

* Additional verbal and written communication skills in a language other than English and Japanese, a plus.

* Ability to multi-task and provide follow-through on projects.

* Flexibility to work with colleagues and internal clients located globally.

* Upbeat temperament, dynamic personality and highly team-oriented approach to work.
