About the Job



Akamai is seeking a talented accounting professional to join the Cambridge-based Revenue Accounting team.  This position will report to a Revenue Accounting Senior or Manager and will work within the team to review revenue contracts with customers, analyze and report monthly revenue, participant in monthly management reporting requests, and ensure compliance with the internal control environment.  They will gain an in-depth knowledge of the company’s revenue policies and accurately apply them to the continuously evolving Akamai business environment.  This position also includes being involved in ad hoc projects that span across functions to improve existing processes and policies.


 
About the Team


The Revenue Accounting Team is responsible for reporting revenue results on a monthly and quarterly basis, and for ensuring those results are reported in accordance with US GAAP.  The team ensures accuracy through the corporate control environment as well as by completing quarterly financial audits.  By collaborating with other Akamai Organizations including divisional finance, sales and services, the revenue team gains an in-depth knowledge of the Akamai Business and it customers.


 
Responsibilities


  • Review customer contracts for revenue recognition issues and ensure proper revenue recognition in accordance with GAAP.
  • Participate in month-end and year-end closes including preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations for revenue and receivables.
  • Perform analysis of monthly customer revenue fluctuations to confirm accuracy and completeness.
  • Communicate with various internal groups to gather and distribute relevant information for decision making (Sales, Professional Services, Division Finance, Billing and Collections).
  • Gather data and prepare related schedules for the Company’s quarterly reviews, annual audits, and SEC filings.
  • Update and strengthen internal controls and procedures.
  • Assist the team in automating manual processes.
  • Perform special projects or duties as required within the finance department.

 


 

Basic Qualifications


  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field

  • Minimum of 2 years’ accounting experience, preferably working with GAAP and SEC guidelines for revenue recognition (ASC 606)

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with MS Excel
     


Desired Qualifications


  • 2 years of Public Accounting experience or equivalent
  • CPA or working towards certification
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently, be a self-starter and thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Proficient in the use of Excel functions including but not limited to: VLOOKUP, SUMIF, Pivot Tables, & IF statements
  • Oracle, Salesforce, &/or Siebel experience 
  • ust be a real team player with a can-do attitude and a solutions-oriented personality.
