The Control Center team is looking for an experienced, talented and driven security architect. This is an opportunity to work with the software foundation of Akamai’s Control Center, our customer facing portal. Our technologies include a web-based micro-service platform that supports UI and API access to hundreds of services across all aspects of our business. All of Akamai’s services depend on our software and therefore security and reliability are paramount. You will collaborate closely with internal Akamai teams who develop products and services for our customers. You will be tasked with our most challenging problems, designing and building innovative high quality solutions that are secure, scalable, and reliable.

As a Senior Security Architect you will be responsible for:

● Ensure that the Akamai Control Center is secure.
● Define and document a 3-5 year security technology vision for the Akamai Control Center.
● Participate in leading and defining security practices for Control Center developers using a systematic approach to security and anticipation of threat vectors.
● Lead initiatives to ensure that the technology vision is realized including developing advanced detection and monitoring capabilities for vulnerability management, response planning and reaction to events.
● Present and defend architectural, design and technical choices.
● Provide mentorship, coordination and guidance for application developers.
● Perform peer design and code reviews.

About the Team

Akamai’s Control Center is Akamai’s face to our users on the Web. It provides a full range of tools and APIs, including analytics, configuration management, web services, training, support, and billing for our customers to manage their accounts.


Required Education and Experience
Applicants must meet one of the following education and experience requirements:
• 8+ years of relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree in CS or equivalent or
• 5+ years of relevant experience and a Master’s degree in CS or equivalent

Required Skills
● 5+ years of software architect/design experience

● 2 years experience developing software using a secure software development lifecycle
● 2 years experience communicating clearly and effectively verbally and in writing to both technical and business audiences
● 5+ years experience with Java, Javascript and/or Python programming languages.
● 2 years experience with cryptography and security standards.
● 2 years experience with common application security issues and remediation.
● 1 year experience applying web-based application attacks and defenses including at least those covered by the OWASP Top 10

Desired Skills
● Master’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
● Experience with Java Web frameworks such as Spring or SpringMVC.
● Knowledge of standard and repeatable software engineering practices.

● Knowledge of Distributed Systems, Databases, Computer & Network Security, Big Data Systems.

● Strong communication and organizational skills.

● Experience and skills supporting technical user communities.

● Highly responsible, self-disciplined, motivated, creative, and confident.
● Understanding of cloud native development patterns (micro-services, statelessness, service registry, service discovery, etc.)
● A solid understanding of how web applications work including security, session management, cross-browser compatibility, authentication schemes (e.g. OAuth, OpenID), general web functions and standards.
● CCSP Certification
● Successful completion of web security challenges such as those on HackThisSite.org, OWASP’s Web Goat, or Google’s Gruyere.
● Familiarity with security technologies, processes, and concepts such as symmetric and asymmetric cryptography, TLS, Authentication and Authorization, Static Code Analysis, penetration testing methods
