Senior Performance Engineer

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience
Applicants must meet the following education and experience requirements:
* 5 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Operations Research, Statistics or a related quantitative discipline or
* 3 years of relevant experience and a Master’s degree or
* Relevant experience and a PhD

Required Skills
* 3 years of experience with statistics and data analysis
* 3 years of experience with algorithm design
* 3 years of scripting experience with at least one of the following languages (e.g. Python, Ruby, Perl) and one language for building applications (e.g. Python, Java, Scala, C++)
* 3 years of experience working in a UNIX/Linux computing environment (basic shell, OS concepts, SQL, etc.)

Desired Skills
* Experience designing data-focused applications using SQL/relational databases, NoSQL databases like Cassandra, and ‘big-data’ systems like Hadoop, Hive, and Spark
* Familiarity with the design and analysis of complex distributed systems
* Experience with software engineering and design, including testing -- ideally having built at least one application or system that others rely on
* Experience with metric reporting (e.g. Graphite, Prometheus) and metric visualization systems (e.g. Grafana)
* Experience with or willingness to learn about containerization
* Experience with internet networking technology concepts, networking protocols, and large-scale distributed systems
* Experience using version control systems
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
