As part of Akamai’s Protocol Optimization team, you will be responsible for:
* Enhancing Akamai’s network protocols and performance.
* Designing and developing highly scalable and secure software from conception through deployment.
* Working with a team of experienced engineers on a variety of client and server-side software projects.
* Analyzing performance and stability issues on Akamai’s networks.
* Working closely with your manager and other teams to ensure the success of your projects.

About the Team
You will be part of Akamai's Protocol Optimization engineering organization within the Media Division. The Media Division is responsible for the development of products related to the large-scale distribution of video, music, and software that are deployed by many of the largest media companies. This team supports customers with their over-the-top (OTT) video, live events, and streaming video optimization requirements through the operation of a global, highly-scalable platform for content ingestion and transformation, storage, and high-quality media delivery.

Required Education and Experience
Applicants must meet the following education and experience requirements:
* 5 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Networking or equivalent.
* 3 years of relevant experience and a Masters’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Networking or equivalent.

* Relevant experience and PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Networking or equivalent.

Required Skills
* 5+ years of development experience in C/C++.
* 5+ years of experience with Internet protocols such as TCP, UDP, DNS, and/or HTTP

Desired Skills
* Good orientation in Linux, macOS, and Windows
* Strong communication and organizational skills
* Expertise with multi-threaded cross-platform development
* Passion to understand, learn and evaluate new technologies
* Proficiency with common scripting languages such as bash, perl, javascript, and/or python
* Solid background in writing secure code and code signing
* Strong problem solving and technical troubleshooting skills, attention to detail
* Experience on performance data analysis is a plus
