Solutions Engineers (SEs) are experienced sales engineering professionals, adept at defining solutions that meet the business and technical requirements of existing and prospective Akamai customers.  A Solution Engineer is self-directed, capable of leading technical sales activities, managing the customer technical relationship, and assuming subject matter expert responsibilities within Akamai.


About the Team

The Media Division is responsible for the creation and sale of Akamai services related to the large-scale distribution of video, music, and software that are sold to major media companies. The Media Division includes the core functions of engineering, product development, product management, sales, SEs, channels and product marketing. This team supports customers with their over-the-top (OTT) video, live events, and streaming video optimization requirements through the operation of a global, highly-scalable platform for content ingestion and transformation, storage, and high-quality media delivery.


* Work closely with Direct Sales and Field Channel Manager for large and complex accounts to educate existing and prospective customers about the superiority of Akamai’s services. This includes conference calls, site visits, presentations, technical evaluations, technical objection handling, & follow up on all customer related issues.

* Actively advocating for customer needs within the Akamai engineering organization. Working with product management on requirements definition for future Akamai products and on-going improvement of existing product functionality, performance and usability by providing valuable input from “the field”.

* Engaging the customer proposal process and ensuring that all technical information and recommendations address customer requirements.

Support and educate Account Management, Sales, Marketing and other internal teams to ensure that customers get appropriate upgrades or event-oriented solutions.

* Actively participating in development and delivery of regional marketing plan, including conferences, customer and channel partner events, whitepapers and blog posts, contributions to news articles and press releases

* Help recruit, hire, and train new Technical Consultants as the company continues its rapid growth and expansion.



Required Skills

* Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills appropriate to both technical and management clients

* Ability of developing/enhancing a strong relationship with clients

* Proven problem-solving skills, a drive for results, interpersonal savvy, and customer-focused approach

* Fluent in Japanese and at least conversational English (can read and write)

* Minimum 3 years of overall IT experience


Desired Skills

* Strong background in Layer 7 technologies and protocols, such as HTTP, DNS, SSL, Web & App Servers, Load Balancers, Content/Application Delivery Network (CDN), HTTP Streaming, Mobile Site/Application Acceleration, Three Tier Architectures

* Experience in HTTP video streaming technologies – Encoding/Transcoding, HDS/HLS/DASH, CMAF, HEVC, AV1, DRM, Media Player, Ad Insertion …etc.

* Industry recognized certifications such as CCNA/CCNP/CCIE, JNCNP/JNCIE, CISSP, CEH

* Experience in the web application security/enterprise security field

* Programming experience in one or more web development technologies/architectures – Python, PHP, C/C++, Ruby, C# or Java…etc.

* Experience with DevOps tools such as Docker, Jenkins, Maven, GitHub, etc.
