Overview


Technical Project Managers are a part of the Akamai Professional Services team and work directly with Akamai's clients to deliver stellar solutions. TPMs lead and manage the integration of customers’ web sites with the Akamai platform. They are involved early in the pre-sales cycle through implementation and customer sign-off. TPMs must have a full understanding of development methodologies, consulting best practices, and common web and application architectures. This position requires a strong technical background, excellent client and project management skills, proven ability to perform hands on technical work when needed, and ability to lead projects and global teams.


As a Technical Project Manager, you will:


• Take on an exciting opportunity within the newly formed Customer Identity Access Management Solution Services team within GSS

• Strategically work with our customers and partners to manage the integration of the Identity Cloud into the digital space of customers (websites, mobile apps, and more). Provide customers with strategic advice, installation, deployment, configuration, testing, and training services

• Lead all aspects of new customer implementation process and onboarding onto the Akamai Identity Cloud, including project kick off meetings and technical and training calls

• Work closely with customers and pre-sales teams to manage and implement customer trials, propose technically feasible solutions and set accurate expectations on effort and timelines for implementation. Establish success criteria and act as the single point of contact for the customer for all technical issues and project deliverables.

• Create and manage to proposals, Statements of Work and detailed project plans for customer integrations including timelines and effort estimates.

• Work closely with Account Management, Sales professionals, engineering, product development and Technical Support to resolve issues that arise during customer trials or integrations.

• Identify new product features and additional sales opportunities during trials and implementations and communication of the same to product development and sales teams.

• Track and document status and time spent on customer integrations.

• Participate in internal projects that help scale the group, implement best practices, and improving our methodology and quality of integrations

• Review quality of customer integrations.

Required Education and Experience


Applicants must meet one of the following education and experience requirements: 

 5 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent or

 3 years of relevant experience and a Master’s degree


Required Skills


• 5+ years of project management experience leading the delivery of enterprise level projects.

• 3+ years experience managing projects involving relational databases.

• Professional PMP certification through the Project Management Institute (PMI) is preferred.

• A strong technical orientation, exceptional planning and organizational skills, and a keen attention to detail are all required.

• Experience in one or more web development languages, methodologies, and/or architectures - J2EE, HTTP, DNS, .NET, C#, JSP, ASP, Tomcat, Apache.

• Outstanding communication skills are required.

• Proficient in using MS Office, Google suite, and Smartsheet.

• Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously preferred.

• Experience with implementing software solutions preferred.

• Understanding of building integrations using REST based APIs preferred.

• 20-30% travel is expected


Desired Skills


• Implementation experience with web delivery technologies.

• Detailed knowledge of Internet technologies and considered a subject matter expert in any relevant internet topic.

• Experience delivering internet technologies within B2B or B2C - shopping cart, user personalization, and dynamic database architectures.

• Experience in a customer facing role requiring a high level of individual responsibility, sound business judgment and large enterprise account management, where an aptitude for improving customer satisfaction was successfully demonstrated.
