The Akamai Security Intelligence Response Team (Akamai SIRT) is responsible for responding to and managing customer and platform security incidents as well as researching threat actors, tactics, techniques, and procedures. You will be exposed to a myriad of architectures protected by Akamai's application delivery and security service networks.

As a participant in our program, you will gain valuable experience and contribute through meaningful project work. You will have the opportunity to join us for training, networking events, and engagements with company leadership. Our internships are open to students and graduates.

As a Security Researcher you will be focused on deep packet inspection, investigations (DDoS, WAF, & emerging threats), security incident SME support, security research, proactive intelligence framework monitoring and protection, and will participate in tool and process development within the research environment.

As a Security Researcher Intern, you will be responsible for:

• Conducting CVE/Vulnerability Assessment
• Researching new trends in attack tools, techniques, and procedures
• Publishing and presenting intelligence/research for consumption by our own security operators, customers' security teams, and the security community
• Developing of research tools- (System administration, docker experience, Linux, Kubernetes)
• Developing PoC attacks against Akamai and Internet infrastructures, including by using ethical hacking, penetration testing and vulnerability assessment

Do what you love

To be successful in this role you will:

• Be pursuing a Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, computer science, or related fields
  OR
  (1) year qualifying work experience in one of the following fields: Security Operations role, Computer Emergency Response Team, Computer Incident Response Team, or Managed Security Services Provider
• Have experience applying/analyzing attacks and defenses
• Have experience analyzing compromised systems for forensic and research purposes
• Have desire to be challenged and learn/grow to meet those challenges
• Be capable of independently solving complex technical problems without direct supervision

Work in a way that works for you

Our 6-month interm program starts in July. The program requires you to be available 40 hours per week during summer months (July-September). We offer the opportunity to work part-time during the academic year (October-December).
